Capitol Hill Parent Teacher Organization
The Capitol Hill Parent Teacher Organization is a joint effort by the parents, faculty, and staff at Capitol Hill Magnet School to work together to improve the school. We're currently in the midst of our two biggest fundraisers of the the school year.

In December, you should have received our 2007-2008 Direct Drive fundraising letter. Your direct donations make up an integral part of the PTO's operating budget--we hope you can give generously to help the PTO fund the experiences that round out your child's education. See the letter and donation form here. (Remember, your gifts are tax-deductible and may be matched by some employers.)

General PTO Meeting Logistics

Time—Meetings are held one evening a month, generally from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the first Monday of the month, when the calendar permits.

Location—Room 1407 (Capitol Hill Conference Room). Enter the Red Doors and turn left at the SPPS Community Education Office, then proceed down the hall to Capitol Hill, keeping to the right hallway. Room 1407 is the first room on the right after the north/south hallway connecting the atriums. (If you get to the office, you've gone too far!)

Agendas - Agendas for upcoming meetings are posted on the PTO web page prior to meetings. Click on the agenda link at right for details. If you would like to propose new agenda items, new items for the budget, or changes to existing items, email them PTO Chair Darlene Haecker by noon on the Friday prior to a PTO Meeting.

Childcare - Childcare for children over 3 years of age is available in the Blue Atrium during meetings. If you will need childcare, contact PTO Volunteer Coordinator Maureen Dolan at 651-224-0733   by 3 p.m., the Friday before a meeting.

How can I participate in PTO?

Just show up at a meeting whenever you can – there are no membership dues of any sort. We encourage you to come, share your ideas, get involved as much as you are able. It’s a great way to get to know other parents and to find out what’s going on at school. (Remember, childcare is available!) If you can’t make it to a meeting, but have issues that you would like addressed, you can contact Darlene Haecker (chair). If sitting at meetings just isn't your thing, be sure to fill out the online  Volunteer Form or the paper copy you receive in your child's opening week folder. We have tons of PTO volunteers who have never set foot at a meeting, but who show up like clockwork to stuff envelopes, cook for teachers during conferences, write grants or help at grade level dinners, the April Foolishness Carnival, Scholastic Book Fair, Ski Club, Destination Imagination or other PTO-sponsored events. Whatever your interest or expertise might be, we've probably got a volunteer opportunity for you! If you would like to volunteer for a specific activity, don't hesitate to note it on your Volunteer Form or contact our Volunteer Coordinator. Even if you can't make meetings, we'll be able to contact you when some of the opportunities you've expressed an interest in come up.
