Capitol Hill Gifted and Talented Magnet School
PTO Budget 2008–09

Wanted: Your budget requests!

While you enjoy the last days of summer, the Capitol Hill PTO is already busy at work on the budget for the 2008–09 academic year!

We have already received some funding requests for this school year and the PTO Officers will review all funding requests on Monday, September 22, 2008.  The official PTO budget will be discussed and voted on at the first official PTO meeting on October 6, 2008.  If you would like to request funding from the PTO, please submit your written requests via e-mail to PTO Chair Jan Nixon at nixonfour@gmail.com and PTO Treasurer Carolyn Larson at larsoncoach33@aol.com  OR on paper, in the PTO mailbox located in the staff workroom by Friday, September 19, 2008.

In your budget request, please include the following:

  • Your contact information
  • The name and contact information of the designated project or event coordinator
  • The number and grade levels of students this project or event will serve
  • The length of the project or event, or an explanation of the ongoing impact (Short term? Long term?) it is intended to have
  • The amount of any matching or in-kind funding you have already received or intend to pursue
  • The fee amount (if any) students will be charged to participate
  • A brief description of the project or event, including an explanation of its goals, as well as how it relates to the Capitol Hill curriculum or enhances the academic experience of the students who will participate, how it might enhance students’ multicultural experiences, how it might improve the Capitol Hill environment, etc..
In considering your budget request, PTO officers will evaluate the number of students impacted and the demographic groups served by the program, project or event, and its potential for multicultural and academic enrichment.

For comparison, links to the final PTO Budget for 2007–08 (approved October 2007), and, the 2006–07 Budget are below. Prior to the 2005–06 academic years the PTO had a surplus. As a result, officers made a decision to spend down those surplus funds, using them for programs the school would not have otherwise been able to provide. In the past two years, however, the organization has approached the school year without such a surplus. We will be depending more on the hard work and creative ideas of dedicated parent volunteers like you, as well as on earnings of the PTO Direct Drive and proceeds from the April Foolishness Carnival. In other words, we've got a lot of work to do and we hope you can help!

If you have questions about the budget or the budget process, contact PTO Chair Jan Nixon at  651-228-1410 or nixonfour@gmail.com.
