Capitol Hill Nurse's Office Sees New Influx

Dr. Betsy Garcia, Capitol Hill's nurse, reports, “This week we are starting to see a lot more Influenza A and H1N1. The nurse's office is again seeing 60 or more students per day.” She also notes that the “traditional” flu season hasn't even started.

“Please continue to encourage hand washing and ‘cover-your-cough,’ and keep your child at home if she or he is sick or has a fever,” she reminds us. But there's one more thing.

“Beyond those measures, every family needs a back-up plan,” Dr. Garcia stressed. “Plan now to have someone available to stay at home with your child for up to five days in case of illness.”

“We are doing everything possible to provide a healthy school community,” Dr. Garcia said. Meeting that challenge involves the whole school community—students, staff, families, even extended families.

CDC Revises Information on H1N1 Flu

In related news, the CDC has released updated information. They now advise that H1N1 flu causes high fever in only about 60% of the cases. The flu can cause respiratory symptoms in many cases without a fever.
