 | | Summer vacation at Isle Royale National Park | Kris is in her third year of teaching 4th grade at Capitol Hill and is happy to be back in the classroom after 17 years working as a Schoolwide Enrichment Specialist. She created and taught in the G/T program at Linwood A+ School for 10 years and prior to that was the SEM Specialist at Horace Mann for three years. Before coming to St. Paul, she also developed the G/T program in the Somerset, WI District and was a 4th and 2nd and Jr. Kindergarten Teacher there as well, for ten years.
Ms. Haslund earned her B.A. at Hamline University and her M.A. in Gifted, Creative and Talented Education at the University of St. Thomas and her 6th Year Advanced Degree in Gifted Education at the University of Connecticut. Currently Kris is an adjunct instructor in the Gifted Ed. Dept. at the Univ. of St. Thomas and works on the staff of Teacher Summer Gifted Institutes at the Univ. of CT, Univ. of Idaho and the Univ. of Louisiana.
Kris serves on both the State and Metro MN Educators for Gifted and Talented Boards. For six years she was one of two Teacher reps., in the country, to the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC). Now she is thrilled (and busy!) to be the Co-Chair of the MN Local Arrangements Committee for the NAGC Convention that is coming to Minneapolis, Nov. 7-11, 2007! It will be an exciting and educational week for the Capitol Hill community!
In her "freetime" Kris enjoys: photography, reading (children's lit.), music and theatre, geocaching, kayaking, x-c skiing, traveling, gardening on her 1860 homestead in Afton, taking her energetic Bearded Collie, Razzy to Agility Shows on weekends and appreciating creativity wherever she sees it!
Mostly she loves being with kids both at school and playing with her three grand nieces and nephews, whenever she can.
Kris is looking forward to another amazing school year at Capitol Hill!
