Enrollment
Capitol Hill Magnet School is designed to meet the needs of academically gifted and talented students. The school serves approximately 950 students in grades 1-8. Students enter primarily in grades 1, 3, and 7, but occasionally enter in other grades as well.
Saint Paul Public Schools tests all students in grades Kindergarten and two to determine eligibility for gifted and talented services. Testing takes place during the months of November through February in the student’s home school. Students must be identified as eligible to receive gifted and talented services to attend Capitol Hill for grades 1-6. At grade seven, this eligibility requirement is lifted and any Saint Paul student may attend Capitol Hill for grades 7 and 8.
Because Capitol Hill is a magnet school, qualified students are placed into a district-wide lottery. Once all open positions have been filled, the remaining students are placed on a waiting list.
Preference is given to qualified students living in the Capitol Hill attendance area:
East - John Ireland Boulevard
West - Lexington Parkway
North - South side of University Avenue
South - North side of Selby Avenue
Tours of the school are available on a regularly scheduled basis. To schedule a tour, parents should contact the Curriculum Coordinator at ext. 2506.
