Site Council January 2003 Minutes

January 13, 2003 4:00-6:00 pm

Call to order: 4:20 pm

Attendance:

Parents present: Barb Jacobs, Carolyn Fisk, Lori Windels, Michael Wulf (4:20), John Zats (4:30), Dawn Johnson (4:20)

Parents absent: Lisa Knudson, Nilgün Tuna, Mark Hulsey, Marshall Smith

Staff present: Tom DeGree, Louis Mariucci, Marian Niemiec, Ron Podratz, John Porter, Kristi Zuehlke

Staff absent: Jane Blumer, Robin Lorenzen, staff alternate

Approval of Minutes from Last Meeting: Motion to approve minutes, seconded and passed.

Announcements: Upon reviewing Site Council by-laws, a member who has been absent for three consecutive meetings or four total meetings has voluntarily resigned from the Site Council. In following with the by-laws, two parents have voluntarily resigned unless they petition the Site Council.

First grade teachers submitted a letter of concern to the Site Council regarding the admissions evaluation, and the changing needs of the students at Capitol Hill. (See handout.)

Principal's Report:

Louis spoke about the noise abatement project.

Committee and Liaison Reports:

Admissions Committee Report and Recommendations:

GTAC liaison report: This committee will be functioning again, now as

a decision-making body. Jr. High preference status: This issue is on hold until the district resolves the matter of school choice.

SCIP/Budget Committees:

Town Hall Meeting Planning: Scheduled for February 20th at 7:00. This is the same night as the Fifth Grade Dinner.

Membership Committee Report and Recommendations: Ron Podratz found a parent willing to become a member. This parent is Hmong, and would fulfill the position of Hmong Parent Liaison.

Outreach/Communications Committee Report and Recommendations:

Plans for Information Fair (February 1st) and Junior High Open House (February 6th). Dr. David Vassar Taylor will be coming to Rondo. (See handout.)

Lunchroom Abatement Project: Various materials will be researched as to the affordability. Also, discussion regarding utilizing recess time as part of the lunchroom noise reduction project will be further evaluated.
