Podratz Biography

Greetings!

I have been teaching at Capitol Hill for 13 years.
During that time I have taught primarily 7th grade English. For a few
years I also had a section of 8th grade English or a study skills
class. In some of those years I taught summer school reading.

I attended Mankato State in the 1960's and received my teaching degree in
history and English. I came to St. Paul and started my teaching career
at Cleveland Junior High.

I enjoy reading and camping with my family during summer vacations.

September 2008
During the first ten weeks of school, my classes will be studying memoir. Students will be reading and discussing several short pieces and reading Rascal by Sterling North. The students will practice writing and will compose a memoir piece of their own. Most reading and writing will be done in class. However, if students do not use their time wisely, they will need to finish at home.

On some days there will be brief writing lessons or instruction. For some students this may be review but still useful.

9/23 We have been working on compelling arguments. Students will submit their best writing for an assessment.

The progress report that will be sent home next week has a grade based upon work completion. I checked notebooks to determine this grade.
