Mr. Ford, Capitol Hill sixth-grade writing/math

Mr. Ford
Welcome to my web site. I have been teaching at Capitol Hill for ten years, all at the sixth-grade level. I taught second grade (with a one-year stint in first) for eight years at a now-defunct East Side school before coming to Capitol Hill. Prior to teaching I was a licensed daycare provider and househusband. I attended Macalester College in the sixties, and again in the eighties to complete teacher certification work. I am the proud father of Alex Ford, who teaches math here at Capitol Hill. I also have a daughter, Elizabeth, who is managing a smoking-cessation study under the direction of a UMD research physician. My wife, Beth, works for the State Dpartment of Human Services. I am fortunate to have them all in my life. I am also fortunate to be teaching writing--I love it--but I do have another life. I hang out at coffee shops, writing and grading papers (arrrrgh), ride my bicycle as often as I can, work out at the YWCA, cook, and tend my gardens. I will update this site as often as I can. At times we have to make unexpected changes in curriculum or due dates; please be patient. Also understand that you can not follow your child's progress on this web site. Progress reports will communicate that information. (Check the Parent Handbook for dates. They are the same as those for jr. high. It's best to call me after 3:00. I am usually at my desk until 4:30 or 5:00. My number is (651) 325-2545. My email address is (You may not get through if your ISP is Yahoo or AOL.)
