My name is Dawn Peterson, and I
am part of the student support team at Capitol Hill. My job is to help
7th and 8th grade students achieve to their true potential.
One
thing that I do is to send out a "Week at a Glance" e-mail each Monday.
This is a summary of what teachers have planned for the week. Sometimes
teachers aren't sure how the week will evolve, so they have me list
TBA. You can then check their individual sections on the Capitol Hill
website during the week to see the list of current homework.
Our
goal is that 7th and 8th graders will leave Capitol Hill with the
ability to independently record and complete their homework. We realize
that some students will need a little more support as they go through
this process. We hope that these weekly e-mails will help you to
support your child in developing this independence.
I coteach 3
supported study halls. Students have access to all of their textbooks
and assignments during study hall and have the opportunity to get help
on assignments they don't understand.
I am also the person you
can contact if your child is struggling. I can help students set up
organization systems and make plans for getting and staying caught up
in their classes. I can also communicate your concerns with their
teachers and help create a plan to help alleviate these struggles.
I'm looking forward to working with you. Contacting me by e-mail is best at dawn.peterson@spps.org.
