Discussion Director
Keep order in the group. Make sure everyone gets a chance to share their ideas. Maintain records.

Summarizer
Prepare a one or two minute statement conveying the the main highlights of the reading assignment.

Passage Picker
Locate a special section of the text to read aloud while members read along. Share your reason for picking it. Was it a well-written, thought-provoking, funny, important or even confusing section of the text?

Artist
Draw anything about the story you liked: a character, the setting, an exciting part, a prediction of what will happen next, or anything else that interests you. Don’t tell about your drawing right away. Let them react to and discuss it first. Must be in color and on copy paper.

Connector
Find connections between the book your group is reading and the world outside. Connect the reading to:
...your own life, your school, or your community.
...similar events at other times and in other places.
...other people and problems that you are reminded of. ...other writings on the same topic.

Investigator
Dig up some background information about the book such as the geography, culture or history of the book’s setting or the author and her or his other works. Bring pictures, objects, music or other materials that illustrate or reflect elements of the book to share at the meeting.

Word Finder
Look for special words in the novel. Consider words that are new, different, strange, funny, interesting, important and/or hard. When you find a word(s) that you want to talk about, mark it with a Post-it note or jot down the page number and then discuss it(them) at the next meeting.
