Beginning Band 5/6 is a band for students who have not played a band
instrument. They will be divided into small groups of like
instruments. They will learn the fundamentals of their instrument
which includes note reading and recognition, rhythms, proper posture
and playing positions, proper tone production. They will use Standard of Excellence Book 1. The students in this group will have an
opportunity to move up to the grade appropriate 5th or 6th grade band
(above) as the year progresses. It should be the goal of every student
in Beginning Band 5/6 to move into that ensemble by January. Students
from Museum Magnet will be part of this band.
I will be visiting the 5th and 6th grade classes this week to distribute a letter and signup sheet to be filled out by parents. Attached is that form if you did not receive it.
An informational meeting for beginning band parents is scheduled for Thursday, September 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the Capitol Hill Band Room.
